(not much here now, hope to add more later)
Steps to take if a karakui (tuning peg) slips and won’t hold a string tight:
-
1.Try to push it in while turning.
-
2.Use violin rosin on the part of the karakui that goes in the holes of the tenjyo.
-
3.Use sandpaper very gently.
If the snakeskin has a small tear, try to patch with superglue before the tear gets too large.
If the strings always buzz or don’t sound clear when played, the angle of the neck may have to be adjusted by adding or removing wood blocks where the neck enters the body. A similar adjustment may be needed when the strings are too far from the neck (in guitar terms: the action is too high). This is difficult explain, but the last photo here may help to visualize it.
