Rojak                Jessica Lu

Jessica has performed worldwide in major events including the Kungstragerten (King's Garden) in Stockholm, Sweden, Paris EXPO MIDEM in Cannes, ITB in Berlin and WOMAD in Singapore. Born in Xi An, she was trained in the Shanghai Music Conservatory where she majored in Sanxian at the tender age of 12. Under the tutorship of virtuoso Sanxian player, Zhang Nian Bing, she acquired such mastery over the instrument that she was invited to record a Sanxian duet with the famous composer and conductor, Xian Hui Chang. She gave her first public performance in 1994 at the Shanghai Concert Hall and won the Best Performer Award in the 1995 International Chinese Music Competition.


Jessica is the first Sanxian musician in the world to revolutionize the playing of this instrument by performing it standing. She moved to Singapore in 1999 after her graduation from the prestigious China Music Conservatory in Beijing and is currently a permanent resident.
